Carolyn Day Upped Her Running Distance From 5K To 16K Last Year
“Physically, I’m very happy with how my body shape has turned out. I wanted to lean out and gain muscles, and I see the results from BODZii. I feel much stronger on runs and I love that my coach also runs which has been helpful.”

Carolyn loves running. With BODZii, she was able to push her distance even further than before! Working with a coach that also runs marathons, she got tips on what to eat to get more energy, how to do longer runs and mixing in other workouts to improve her overall physique.

“In past summers I’ve ran, but not nearly as much. I wasn’t going as far. Last summer, 10-11 k was a big accomplishment but now that comes easily.”

Even as someone who’s already active, getting a strategic workout plan has helped her enjoy her runs even more. That way, she doesn't get bored of only doing cardio. She learned a lot about how to take care of her body to get the results she wanted.

That being said, there are still challenges. When quarantine loosened up, Carolyn has been to cottage weekends which makes eating healthy trickier. She’s gotten a lot of great tips on mindful eating and picturing serving sizes even without a scale so she can control herself better with snacks. Even if she does eat more than usual, Coach Zeynep helps her decrease bloating so Carolyn doesn’t stress.

Q&A with Carolyn

What does a day in your life look like before and after BODZii?

“I used to wake up, sit down and do work. With no commute during quarantine, I’d just go downstairs and sit all day. Walking in the morning is completely new to me, and I enjoy doing that. Coach Zeynep has helped me set healthier habits and better goals throughout the day.

Another big change has come from learning strategies on what to make when I meal prep. I’m able to meal prep my breakfast and my relationship with food has improved a lot more. I live with my family and my mom makes dinner, but I can still portion based on what I learned.

I feel much more confident about my body and the choices I make with eating. I appreciate carbs much more after learning why we need to eat protein, fat and carbs. Now I’m just working on maintenance.”

What has the process of working with a nutrition coach like?

“It’s been a very positive experience and I’m very happy with Zeynep. She always gives me very detailed responses to any questions I have, and I loved learning that we have similar interests in running. Hearing what she does as a professional for her runs and what other people do has helped a lot.

We’re both at the same level and increasing our distance at the same time. She’s given me tips like taking a sip of water every kilometer, and our relationship is great. I also follow her on Instagram where she posts a lot of helpful food content. She’s even DMed me a few pages for strength training and meal prep inspiration.

We usually email in lots of detail, but sometimes I’ll text her short questions. Whenever I get stressed or have a concern, she responds quickly with lots of information. I always feel supported. Sometimes we do phone calls too which feels very personal.”

What has helped the most about working with a nutrition coach?

“Having moral support and someone to hold you accountable is big. It’s also so helpful to get specific advice based on your situation. If you look things up online, the content isn’t personalized for you. An article online doesn’t know what you struggle with, what your strengths are, so having a personal plan with lifestyle coaching is key.

I ask Zeynep a lot of questions and she’s very good with explaining research in a way that’s relevant to me. She’s helped me improve my recovery through what I’m eating, and she explained to different concepts like how carbs in bread are much more beneficial than from fruits.

I used to be a competitive swimmer, but I knew nothing about food. Now with BODZii, I can see the physical differences of eating properly and building muscle. Even for the future when my goals change or if I have kids, I’ll have this knowledge for the rest of my life.”
