“I was always staying in shape as an active Crossfitter. Even though I had a sense of certain foods being good, I never measured or portioned anything. I used BODZii to lose as much body fat as I could without being unhealthy, and now I’m working on bulking and building muscle without gaining fat.”
As a weatherman working in Florida, Nicholas would travel to storms in order to report them. He wouldn’t have a kitchen on the road, which made it hard for him to eat healthily. Even though Nicholas does lots of exercise, he realized he couldn't outwork a bad diet.
Now after 3 months of nutrition coaching, eating properly is routine to him. He went from never measuring anything to being able to portion his meals without a scale. Now Nicholas has a good sense of what 6 oz. of chicken looks like, so he doesn’t have to sacrifice his health when he’s on the go.
Q&A with Nicholas
What does a day in your life look like before and after BODZii?
“I do a lot of traveling both for work and during my off time. For work, I am a weatherman in Florida and it was our rain and hurricane season. When I started in BODZii, there was a tropical storm on the east side I was traveling to. Because I didn’t have a kitchen, it was very hard to plan.
Now with BODZii, I have a mental checklist of what to get and what to eat. For instance, I went on a trip to Yellowstone national park, in the woods. I brought beef jerky, rice cakes, protein bars, and protein shakes to hold me over so I don’t feel hungry.
Before BODZii, I would eat late into the night very often. Now I finish my last meal earlier so I can prioritize my sleep. I’m also saying no to high sugar foods. Tracking my food with BODZii has made me aware of all my bad habits and the nibble foods that make such a difference in my body. At the same time, I no longer feel guilty if I ever veer off my meal plan for the occasional holidays. I can always jump back into my plan and feel the change in my body.”
What has been your greatest improvement since joining BODZii?
“Physically, I’m down 16 lbs in 12 weeks. This is the leanest I’ve ever been in my adulthood. People in my life have noticed, which is nice. All my pants and shorts I wore before are too big for me.
My coach has helped me work with both my macros and calories for cutting fat, and my next round of building muscle. She’s given me calories to aim for my long-term goals as well as strategies for on the road.
In addition, Zeynep suggests a lot of great ideas for meals even without a kitchen. The pre-workout meals and post-workout carbs/protein breakdown has really helped me out. My schedule changes all the time, sometimes I do a big workout in the morning or the evening. Understanding when to spread my macronutrients and rearranging my meals to optimize energy has been so helpful.”
What has helped the most about working with a nutrition coach?
“The most helpful part for me was having to log all my meals. Then Zeynep would go through and see what didn’t look right. If she didn’t like what I had for breakfast that day, she can give me tips based on that. There were times when I was tempted to have a nice dessert, but I didn’t want to log it and mess up my macronutrients throughout the day.
The way I think about meals has fundamentally changed, and I feel confident about what I eat to get the most out of my workouts. Now it’s all routine to me.”
